The crunching of popcorn, whirring of the carnival rides and the raucous laughter that accompanies them are coming to Plainfield as St. Susanna’s Summer Festival arrives June 14 to the 16.
This year will feature entertainment by the Infinity Dance Academy, Avon Aerial Orioles, Launch Pad Bands and more as well as a raffle for a 2018 Ford Focus and other prizes.
A separate area will also be set up for family and children at the festival for people who want to play games and enjoy the event on a budget.
This is the 18 year since the St. Susanna’s Festival began in 2000.
Former Parish Life Committee Chair Michelle Wiegand originally organized the event alongside Angie Knuckles as a way to combine several events geared for just families or adults into one.
Since the festival began, it has come to bring in roughly $85,000 every year for the Parish and its outreach programs, such as St. Mark’s Food Pantry, St. Vincent De Paul and other organizations in the community.
“It’s grown into something bigger than anything we could have imagined,” Wiegand said.
Special Events Chair Jennifer Schwent says her favorite part about the event is being able to reach out and get to know people in both the Parish and the community.
“There are a lot of great people out there, and I think the world dwells on a lot of negativity, so it’s really nice to be a part of this, and to share in that with the Parish and the community,” Schwent said.
No matter who you are, Wiegand encourages anyone to come down to the festival to have fun.
“There’s lots of smiles at the festival,” Wiegand said. “Come and just enjoy being around people in a happy environment.”
