Rib Fest canceled; fireworks and Rib Run a go for July 4

Staff report

The 16th annual Hendricks County Rib Fest & Balloon Glow, scheduled for June 27, has been cancelled, according to Avon Chamber of Commerce officials.

The chamber, instead, will have a fireworks celebration as well as Rib Run on Saturday, July 4. “This is a great way for the Avon community to come together and celebrate a new beginning.” said Tom Downard, executive director of the Avon Chamber of Commerce, in a prepared statement.  “There has been a lot of discussion on how we could continue this event, and we felt this was the best way to make it happen.”

The July 4 5k Rib Run, sponsored by IU Health West Hospital, begins at 8 a.m. The chamber has partnered with RaceMaker Productions to provide both onsite and remote options for people to participate in the family fun 5k.

“This decision was not made lightly or without extensive conversation amongst our committee, our executive board and the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds,” Downard stated.   “We look forward in being back in June 2021.  It will be bigger, it will be better, and it will be filled with hugs, fun and people licking BBQ sauce off their fingers.”

The Hendricks County Rib Fest & Balloon Glow 2021 will be back on June 26, 2021 at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds, Danville.

For those interested in sponsorship of the fireworks celebration, contact the chamber  by e-mail info@avonchamber.org or (317) 272-4333.

The winner and runner-ups of last year’s Rib Fest are announced. This year’s June 27 event has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, a fireworks celebration and the annual Rib Run will take place on July 4.
