The Plainfield community is rallying behind a young boy named Jack Moon who is battling cancer. The energetic 12-year-old Plainfield Middle School student who loves baseball was diagnosed with advanced non-Hodgkins lymphoma in August. He has been taking chemotherapy at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for 7 months.
“Jack is known as a happy-go-lucky typical 12-year-old boy. It’s not good to see him rocking the same hairstyle as me,” said Plainfield Deputy Police Chief Kyle Prewitt, who coaches baseball in the same league Jack plays on.
Family, friends, along with local businesses and the Plainfield Police Department (to name a few) are wearing orange t-shirts and selling badges in support of Jack Moon.
“We are selling what looks like a shoulder patch that has the hashtag #jackmoonstrong,” said Prewitt.
“We are doing everything we can. The community is stepping up and we want to be part of that.”
To help the family with mounting medical costs, community members have flooded the GoFundMe site with prayers and donations. So far, they have raised more than $31,000 with all donations going towards Jack’s cancer treatment.
The hashtag #JackMoonStrong is popping up across Hendricks County. A Twilight Run under the Moon fundraiser will also be held on Oct. 19 at Plainfield High School to help raise money for Jack’s treatments.
Frigid Frog in Plainfield and C.J.’s Pizza will also be there and donating a portion of the proceeds back to Jack.
“Whenever there is an opportunity to give back a little in the community we try our very best to do that,” said Frigid Frog owner Keith Frazier.
