Avon Schools name new superintendent

By Lindsay Doty

The Avon Board of School Trustees has chosen Scott Wyndham as the next superintendent to lead Avon Community School Corporation (ACSC) effective July 1.

He will succeed Margaret Hoernemann who is retiring after leading the district for eight years. The board will hold a public hearing on Wyndham’s selection on June 9.

Wyndham is familiar with the district. He has served as assistant superintendent and director of finance & operations for ACSC since 2016. He is responsible for oversight of the district’s business and operations and has helped lead Avon Schools through complex financial times.

Prior to joining the Avon team, Wyndham was director of special education for Brownsburg Community School Corporation and served as a building and district administrator in the MSD of Wayne Township. He has taught at the elementary and high school level prior to moving into administration.

“I am honored to continue serving the Avon community as the next Superintendent. The vision and leadership of the Board of School Trustees was evident throughout the interview process and I believe we are poised to continue making great progress as a school district,” said Wyndham, who has worked and lived in Avon with his family for 13 years and has two daughters who attend Avon Schools.

“I am thankful to Dr. Hoernemann for her strong leadership of ACSC for the past eight years and to the ACSC staff working hard every day for our students.”

Wyndham was selected out of applicants from inside and outside of Indiana.

“Following an extensive search that included input from our community members, families, staff and students, Dr. Wyndham emerged as the frontrunner,” said ACSC Board President Anne Engelhardt.

“We are confident in his ability and vision to continue moving the district forward in academic growth, equity and financial efficiency.”

Wyndham is an active Avon resident. He is involved in numerous community groups, including Kiwanis, Hendricks Regional Health YMCA Advisory Board, Oriole Advocates, and is a graduate of Leadership Hendricks County.

Avon Community School Corporation (ACSC) serves approximately 10,000 students in grades Pre-K to 12 in 12 schools (seven elementary; two intermediate; two middle and one high school). One of the elementary schools will be converted into a Preschool Center in 2021.

The contract that includes salary details is expected to be released tomorrow on the district’s website. The previous superintendent contract signed in 2016 had a basic annual salary of $163,092.

May 28 update: Under the proposed contract, the annual base salary for the superintendent will be $170,500. The agreement is for three school years.

The board will hold a public hearing on Wyndham’s selection on June 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Avon School Corporation’s Administration Building, 7203 E. US Hwy 36, to discuss and hear feedback on the proposed contract. The board will then take a final vote on June 16.
