Police say toddler accidentally shot mother in Hendricks County; woman hospitalized

A woman was taken to the hospital this morning after being accidentally shot by her two-year-old son,  according to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office has confirmed the shooting happened around 9:20 this morning at the family’s home in the 6400 block of West U.S. 36,  near the Putnam County line.

Deputies were dispatched to the home for the report of a person shot.  According to police, the preliminary investigation said that the two-year-old child located a semi-automatic pistol within his home and shot his mother. A 5-year-old sibling was also at home at the time and called for help.  The children were not injured. The 40-year-old mother was transported to an Indianapolis hospital and is now said to be in stable condition.  No further details were given about the gun. 

Child Protective Services and Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office detectives are following up on this case.
