What does Veterans Day mean to you as we prepare to celebrate Nov. 11?
As a veteran it will most likely take on different meanings.
No matter what it means to you or the veterans in your life, this is a special time to say thank you to an exceptional group of people.
There are at least two services planned to recognize those who have served our nation. If you can spare the time, we encourage you to attend.
The Avon American Legion Post #145 will host a significant tribute to female veterans at 1 p.m. Nov. 11, 4812 E. Main, St., Avon.
Retired Lt. Gen. Carol A. Mutter and the first female in all of the armed forces to be nominated to a three-star rank will be the post’s featured speaker. Mutter resides in Brownsburg.
The day before Veterans Day, the annual Veterans Day Ceremony will celebrate Hendricks County men and women who served at 1 p.m. Nov. 10 at the World War II Memorial Park, 7866 E County Road 100 S, Avon. Hosted by the by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Wa-Pe-Ke-Way Chapter the event includes the presentation of colors by the Hendricks County Color Guard. The chapter will also display available photographs of the 133 veterans from Hendricks County who died while serving our country.
Of course this is a sampling of how our veterans will be honored.
We have the utmost respect for these men and women. Take time to thank someone on Nov. 11 for his or her service.
