Steel beam transported for Brownsburg’s 9/11  Memorial

By Lindsay Doty
On a chilly spring day, members of The Brownsburg Fire Territory transported a steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center to Arbuckle Commons where it will serve as the centerpiece for a 9/11 memorial.
More than two dozen motorcycle riders with the American Legion escorted the artifact to the location. No program or ceremony was held. A formal public dedication will be planned for a later date.
The Brownsburg Park Board unanimously voted to allow the memorial to be built after a longtime effort by a group of firefighters who have been passionate about building a 9/11 memorial in Brownsburg. They hope when it’s complete it will provide a place for residents and visitors to reflect on the historical importance of that day.
“This has been a long time coming with many trying to make it happen.  Their hard work is paying off with a permanent 9/11 Memorial in Brownsburg, ” Brownsburg Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mike Arnould said.
The project is being done through donations and fundraising.
