Small businesses offer Sweet Saturday in Danville

by Lindsay Doty
Small business owners in Danville are teaming up for Sweet Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 8 on the Danville Courthouse Square.
Visitors are invited to stroll, mingle and enjoy a sweet treat while they shop.
The annual event is designed to attract new customers to the square. The participating  businesses will be offering discounts and deals.
Merchants include Chelsea’s General Store & Antiques, Forgot-Me-Nots, Gallery on the Square, Paisley Peacock, Seize the Night, Smokey, Fireside Creations, Watermelon Patch and Danville Florist & Gifts.
“It helps get women, men and kids out on a Saturday into the shops that they normally wouldn’t visit on a Saturday. Maybe they are looking for a gift for their loved one or just out browsing,” Megan Allen with Danville Florist said.
Small business owners say the support of the Hendricks County community is key to staying open.
“If we don’t have support, we end up not being able to keep our doors open. That’s scary as most all the small businesses on our square are one or two people owned businesses. We need support to keep our doors open but much bigger, food on the table for our families. We’ve all taken a huge leap to have a small business and we thrive on our customers shopping with us versus a big chain store,” Allen said.
The event is part of the Downtown Danville Partnership, an all-volunteer nonprofit that works to promote Danville’s historic courthouse
