Shirley Terry wins ICON’s holiday recipe contest
Plainfield’s Shirley Terry earned the coveted crown, winning the Hendricks County ICON 2019 recipe contest for her Pumpkin Bread.

The 85-year-old Plainfield resident is passionate about church, euchre and baking.
“These loaves make real nice Christmas gifts,” she said. “I give these every Christmas. I real good friend gave me this recipe over 35 years ago.”
Here’s her award winning pumpkin bread recipe:
Pumpkin Bread (2 loaves)
3 cup sugar 1 tsp. vinegar
1 cup oil 4 eggs
2 cup pumpkin 2 tsp. soda in 2/3 c water
1 Tbsp. pumpkin spice 3 ½ cup flour
1 ½ tsp. salt ¾ cup chopped nuts
*Cream sugar & oil. Add pumpkin spice & salt. Beat.
Add eggs, beat. Add 1 cup flour and liquids, then rest of flour.
Beat 1 minute. Fold in nuts. Bake in 2 greased 1-pound loaf pans at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 mins.
