Plainfield Police Department adds Little Free Pantry

The Plainfield Police Department has opened its own Little Free Pantry inside the front doors of the department.
The small wooden box, filled with staples like peanut butter and canned soup, was installed this month as part of a partnership with police and the Plainfield Guilford Township Public Library.
It’s accessible 24 hours a day to the community and aims to help families access non-perishable food items and some toiletry items.
“It’s the right time to start it. We have people hurting and we are in a situation right now where they need it,” said Plainfield Police Department Deputy Chief Joe Aldridge. “We believe we’re the first police department in Hendricks County to have a Little Free Pantry location.”

“It goes to show neighbors are helping neighbors.”
Community members have been dropping off donations to replenish the pantry. Donations can be left at the front foyer of 1075 W Main Street.
“We just ask people to take what they need and leave what they can,” said Aldridge.
