More than a hundred motorcycle riders will be hitting the road in Plainfield to raise money for sick and injured animals.
The Hogs for Hounds charity ride and adoption event will raise funds for the Hendricks County Animal Shelter. The money will help fund medical expenses for homeless animals that are sick or injured. Like Lucy, a two-year-old shelter dog whose leg had to be amputated because she was hit by a car.
“I hate to see animals coming into the shelter with injuries or sickness. I want to make them all better and I wouldn’t be able to do it without this charity event,” explains LaDonna Hughes, office manager of the Hendricks County Animal Shelter, located in Danville. “Motorcycle riders have such big hearts and want to help any cause. I don’t think anyone could resist helping sweet innocent animals who have been let down by humans. I am just amazed at how generous the riders are.”
The Plainfield Fraternal Order of Eagles and ABATE (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) of Indiana helped organize the event.
The ride includes lunch and a t-shirt. There will also be a family fun day with games, a bounce house and activities.
“The Eagles are passionate about a lot of things. The main thing is just helping,” Bryan Titus, secretary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Plainfield, said.
He hopes the charity will encourage more people looking for a pet to adopt rescues.
“My dog came into my life unexpectedly. I found it on a railroad track when it was 5-weeks-old and we’re the best of friends,” Titus said about his Doberman Lab mix named Ruby.
There are currently around 150 animals looking for homes at the Hendricks County Animal Shelter. Some will be brought to the event in hopes of getting adopted.
“I’m a person who wants to save them all and you can’t, but when you can do something to get them out there and get them adopted it’s everything to see them go to permanent homes,” explains organizer Sheila Casey, the Hendricks County representative for ABATE.
The Hogs for Hounds charity includes a live auction with items like a hot air balloon ride and escape room package. Organizers hope to raise around $15,000.
