Funnyman Dave Dugan returns to Danville’s Royal Theatre
By Lindsay Doty
Longtime comedian and Hoosier native Dave Dugan will bring his Cabin Fever Comedy Tour to Danville’s historic Royal Theatre in Feb. 20.
The show that touts clean humor will also feature comedians Joe Bates and Katy Hetlage.
“As a national touring comedian for many years, one of my favorite venues for performing remains to be historic theaters in my home state,” said Dugan.
The standup comedian has had a lengthy career with gigs on HBO and Comedy Central. He got his first big break with the legendary Dick Clark before and “The Arsenio Hall Show” in the 1980s. Today, Dugan is a touring comedian and a regular contributor and writer for the “Bob & Tom” radio show.
“My comedic style is often described as dry and observational and at times spontaneous.
In addition to the prepared material…I like to think on my feet. And if the audience feels like participating…that is not a problem for me,” he says.
Dugan grew up in what he calls “old” Carmel (before it was fancy with lots of roundabouts) and has always enjoyed making people laugh.
“I’ve seen a lot of change in comedy throughout my career. Much of what used to be funny in the 80’s or 90’s isn’t funny today. It’s important to update. What is the same is folks still like to laugh. NEED to laugh.”
His comedy is clean but he says these days you can say almost anything and it will offend someone.
“No need to walk on eggshells for these “someones.” Time to relax and realize this ( comedy) is just a fun escape.”
Through the years, he still gets a kick out of making people laugh.
“ Even off-stage with friends, family, etc—-the best socializing is the kind that is filled with humor.”
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Royal Theatre located at 59 S. Washington St., Danville.
Beer and wine and snacks available.
Tickets are $15 advance & $20 at the door.
