The Danville Town Council met March 3 and granted Dan Distler’s request to close the Historic Courthouse Square 8 a.m.-midnight May 15 for a one-day Mayberry Fest and a red-carpet premiere of the movie, “The Mayberry Man,” at the Royal Theater. Portions of the independent movie was filmed in Danville last summer.

Distler, representing Stark Howell who wrote and directed the movie, said the festival will be open to the public and include a car show, food and drink vendors, a Mayberry Trivia contest and memorabilia stand.

That evening the red carpet walk will feature many of the actors who appear in the movie. This will not impact the seasonal farmers market that will also be on the Square that morning from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
