The Brownsburg Town Council met June 24 for a regular meeting. Four of the five council members were present. Brain Jessen was absent. The council meets at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays each month at Brownsburg Town Hall, 61 N. Green St. Meetings are streamed live and archived at brownsburg.org. The next regular meeting was scheduled for July 8.
The council read a proclamation recognizing June 27 as Pride Day in commemoration of Stonewall Inn riots in Greenwich Village in 1969. Hendricks County Alliance for Diversity hosted a picnic on June 27 at Williams Park. This proclamation urged citizens to join in the celebration and learn about the history of the Pride month.
President Travis Tschaenn read a proclamation recognizing Juneteenth as June 19, 2021. The proclamation comes as Juneteenth was made a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery as residents of Galveston, Texas, learned of the Emancipation Proclamation which passed two years earlier.
“Juneteenth serves as an opportunity for all Americans, including the residents of Brownsburg, to reflect on the culture and history of Black Americans in an effort to support racial equity and cultural understanding,” Tschaenn read.
Council accepted a bid for emergency repairs of County Road 300 N. The road is suffering a significant amount of heaving and potholing. The road will be repaired for a cost of $255,000 for emergency rehabilitation. The repairs will close the road for about three weeks.
