Chairs will no longer sit empty at the Red Curb Improv Comedy Theatre (RCT) in Avon. After a 15-month closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the theater is reopening its doors with live in-person audiences starting June 5. Red Curb will restart with two weekly improv comedy shows on Saturday nights and hold stand-up comedy on select Friday nights.
“All of us here at Red Curb can’t be more grateful and excited to have found our way to the other side of this pandemic. We cannot wait to start performing live comedy again,” said owner Will Pfaffenberger.
The theater will be back with some new options. It will be the new temporary home of ComedySportz Indy (CSz), a fast-paced improv show where two teams battle for laughs and points as they make up scenes, games and songs on the spot. The ComedySportz Show will be featured every Saturday at 7 p.m.
“This new partnership with CSz Indy is going to be fantastic and bring a whole new fun energy to the theater. It’s time for our community to get out and laugh again — no matter your age.”
During the closure, the club offered everything from podcasts and Patreon page subscriptions to virtual Santa visits to help offset costs, but it’s been a tough road.
“We’ve been diligently clinging on ever since,” said Pfaffenberger.
In February, the theater raised nearly $2,000 with an online fundraiser to help keep doors open.
As they get back to normal hours, Red Curb will be capping the theatre’s capacity at 60% and will expect audience members to wear a mask when not actively eating or drinking.
