Avon loses semi-state match up to Columbus East, 10-3

The Avon High School boys baseball team missed a chance to play in the IHSAA 4A finals next weekend, losing a semi-state game, 10-3, to Columbus East High School, Saturday, June 8 at Mooresville High School.

The Orioles finished the year at 18-19. AHS’ semi-state appearance was its second in school history, having last played in 1994.

“We’re just real proud of the guys this post season,” Oriole coach Troy Driosche said. “The commitment that they had to the program, especially the seniors over these four years … they definitely grew up a lot both personally and from baseball standpoint. It was just a magical ride that we were blessed to be a part of.“

A young team, the Orioles lose only five seniors off the roster. Driosche said he feels good about the program’s future.

“We definitely like the direction of the program and the pieces we’ll have coming back … we had a lot of guys that were contributors this year that will be a big part of what we do moving forward,” he said.
