Avon, Brownsburg schools alter mask mandates

By Gretchen Becker

The Brownsburg School Board voted Nov. 8 to end the mask mandate for all students effective Dec. 20. The board said this will allow parents of students ages 5-11 who choose to have their children vaccinated time to be fully vaccinated before returning to school after winter break Jan. 4.

Superintendent Jim Snapp said after attending school a full week after fall break that cases and quarantines increased slightly:

The Avon School Board also voted Nov. 8 to change their mask policy.

Due to Indiana operating in a yellow COVID-19 spread status, starting Tuesday, Nov. 9, students at White Oak Early Learning Center, both middle schools and Avon High School no longer are required to wear masks. They are recommended but not required.

Face masks are still required at Avon’s elementary and intermediate schools.
