An Option: Uptown Cafe

Uptown Cafe
7 West Pearl Street
North Salem, IN

After some Christmas shopping in North Salem with visits to Garden Gate Gift & Flower Shop, Come Hang Out Thrift Shop & Gift Store, and North Salem Antiques, we needed to replenish our calorie burn. We noticed all the cars and foot traffic, along Main Street with carryout boxes in hand and decided to checkout the newly opened Uptown Cafe, across the street from North Salem State Bank. The former location of Liz’s Country Cafe offers a farm to table menu with North Salem beef, specials and a fresh salad bar daily with house made slaw, potato and bean salads. We were told to watch for the former Red Dog Steakhouse’s pea salad recipe as a special in the near future.

We ordered the day’s special Taco Salad plus the Mediterranean omelet. The taco salad was flavorful with the local beef, crisp vegetables and fresh baked shell. The omelet was full of feta cheese, spinach, tomatoes and the perfect amount of onion. The dessert special was lemon bars and was the perfect finish to our impromptu stop; sweet, a little tart with a perfectly baked crust.

Owner, Ryan and Logan Freeland’s motto… good food, reasonably priced with flavors that bring you back. We’ll be back!

WHERE I DINE
Mary Ellen McMahon, Pittsboro

Where do you like to dine?

“Punch Bowl Social, downtown Indy”

What do you like there?

“First and foremost, the Bloody Mary Bar on the weekends with the Chicken and a Waffles. It’s my perfect brunch. During the week, the salad entrees are wonderful.”

What do you like about this place?

“The atmosphere especially with all the games. When you go with group it’s a great way to interact, not sitting at the bar or table.”
